*** Item description ***
Our Driftwood Shavings are a new incense ingredient being used in the creation of some of our original incense blends. Matt has been hand collecting numerous pieces of driftwood from the local beaches and has been testing and cataloging each one. The three options offered here have been our favorites so far, and we are delighted to be able to share them with you. Each piece of wood has been carefully grated by hand in order to produce fine shavings for easy use.
The driftwood offered in this listing reminds us a little of a rustic form of sandalwood when used on top of a charcoal tablet. It has a more smokey character than traditional sandalwood, and is maybe better compared to Hawaiian and Australian Santalum species. Think of a nice warm, mellow pieces of wood being burned in an outdoor campfire. We are currently unable to identify the type of wood, but they may be white mangrove. All driftwood has been collected on Sanibel Island. Each piece was cleaned off, but you still might find occasional granules of sand mixed in.
Dark Driftwood: This is our personal favorite. Smoother and more akin to the sandalwood-like aroma we describe in the listing.
Light Driftwood: This is very similar to the dark version, but a bit less aromatic.
Red Driftwood: This one is more funky than the other two versions. It probably originates from a different species of tree. This has a more burnt baked good characteristic with a light "eggy" note.
We recommend using the traditional charcoal method with this ingredient and suggest testing it outside first to make sure that you do not find the smoke irritating. Matt and Melissa both personally tested out each batch of wood and found no negative effects. It is possible to use this ingredient with electric incense heaters such as the Golden Lotus, but it must be used at maximum heat near the 250°C range. Sublimation heaters would be a better choice in our opinion.
