*** Blend description ***
Island Nag Champa is a new incense blend based on the well-received Nag Champa Meditations (2018) and Hawaiian Nag Champa (2019) incenses created by Ethereal Aromas Incense Company. The intent with this incense was to take the traditional nag champa incense recipe in a more tropical direction. This incense melds the traditional nag champa scent with the aroma of a warm boardwalk and copal incense, wrapped in sweet tropical fruits, finally blooming with the bouquet of numerous flowers found throughout the tropical islands of both the New World and the islands of Southeast Asia. Various ingredients were personally collected from the beaches of Southwest Florida.
First off, this blend is heavily based in fresh Copal Blanco and rich Sandalwood, to which traditional nag champa ingredients were added. The warmth of a hot boardwalk and an ocean-tempered palapa are brought out by the addition of Gaharu wood from Papua New Guinea and hand collected Driftwood from Sanibel Island. Other resins such as Benzoin of Siam, Copal Oro and some of our Sea-Kissed Myrrh rounded out the incense base. Next, a seductively sweet collection of tropical delights such as Coconut, Vanilla, Pineapple and Yuzu swirl amongst the shade of swaying palms and other coastal plants. Finally, the seaside breeze sweeps the intoxicating breath of precious flowers such as golden Champaca, Jasmine Sambac, Frangipani and Ylang-Ylang along the coastline, delighting one's senses.
Island Nag Champa is best experienced on an electric incense heater such as the legendary Golden Lotus heater. This blend contains many volatile and delicate notes, and there are 2 methods we have enjoyed using with our electric heater. The first method is to set the temperature at approximately 180°C and allowed the scent to slowly develop over the period of about 30 minutes to an hour. This method provides a mild, but enjoyable experience. However, the large amount of sandalwood and copal become much more prevalent at a high temperature, somewhere around 250°C. Using a high heat level such as this quickly release many of the sweet and floral notes in a hurry, but then the warm resin and wood aroma develops gradually some 10 to 15 minutes later. You can leave this one on the heater for hours, in which case it will continue to provide a nice warm incense wood aroma. For traditional settings, place the incense directly on the red hot coal. Alternatively, you may allow the coal form a thin layer of ash over its surface, creating a thin barrier between the incense and the coal. While this is not necessary, it allows for the subtle and delicate notes to emerge with less charing resin.
