You will receive approximately 15 grams (0.52 ounces) of all natural resin-based incense housed in an aluminum tin with an illustrated label. The Island Octopus' "Beach Sand" blends are a loose form of incense designed for easy use with electric and charcoal censers. We also have 1 gram sample sizes available.
*** Blend description ***
Sanibel Sunrise is a completely new resin-based incense formula. This incense was inspired by the barrier island known as Sanibel off the coast of Southwest Florida. Imagine yourself stepping out onto the beach, basking in the morning sun and sipping on a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. Shore birds dance among the lapping waves and the scent of sweet flowers drift on the wind. You think you can smell the scent of incense from the Gum Limbo tree being smoldered from a hidden grove, deep within the mangroves...
First and foremost, this is a copal based incense blend, with copal blanco and golden dammar being the foundation to which all other ingredients are added. A small amount of one of our Sea-Kissed Myrrhs add a watery note to the mix, that also includes benzoin almonds for sweetness, gardenia resin with its tropical pungency, and other mysteries. Next, soft incense woods including sandalwood and palo santo were added. The warmth of the Sun can be found in the sweet and floral combination of tangerine, ylang ylang, white champaca, labdanum and others. To make sure the feel of the island's wilderness is not completely lost to the citrus fantasy, small amounts of ferula, gaharu, ginger, verbena, and others were added. Finished with vintage Ambergris and a touch of almond.
Sanibel Sunrise can be used both in the traditional setting on top of hot charcoal, and with an electric incense heater such as the legendary Golden Lotus. When using electric, we have found that we enjoy this most when used at a temperature of approximately 180°C, which allows the delicate notes to develop over the period of about 30 minutes. After an hour or more, we then like to crank the dial to 225°C or more to release resinous notes of the copal. For traditional settings, this incense works excellently when used on top of charcoal. Place the incense directly on the red hot coal. Alternatively, you may allow the coal form a thin layer of ash over its surface, creating a thin barrier between the incense and the coal. While this is not necessary, it allows for the subtle and delicate notes to emerge with less charing resin.
